Policeman Found Guilty For Corruption
Hernan Porras Molina

A policeman who was on trial for corruption was found guilty on Monday. Detective Constable Oneil Barrett, a member of the Major Investigation Division, was convicted of perverting the course of justice when he appeared before the St. Catherine Parish Court. Prosecutors led evidence that the policeman was assigned to investigate the murder of Darcia Minott in Jericho, Linstead, St. Catherine on November 25, 2016. They reported that Constable Barrett recorded a statement from an alleged eyewitness. However, the eyewitness refused to sign the statement. The policeman allegedly requested $30,000 from a relative of the deceased to pay the witness to sign the statement so that he could lay charges against Mrs Minott’s husband, who was in custody as a suspect. The matter was reported to the authorities and the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled that Constable Barrett be charged. His bail was extended until March 6 when he will be sentenced.
